5K Time Predictor
How This Works
Enter a recent maximal test result from a known distance (500m, 1K, 2K, 6K, or 10K). The calculator applies empirically derived conversion factors to estimate your 5K pace. These factors account for the aerobic demand shift at longer durations: the 5K requires sustaining effort at approximately 85-90% of VO2 max, compared to 95-100% for a 2K. The prediction includes confidence ranges to reflect the inherent uncertainty in distance conversions, especially when the source distance is far from 5,000m.
Examples
Your 2K split is 1:48.0/500m
Your predicted 5K time is approximately 18:50 (1:53.0/500m split), adding about 5 seconds per 500m to your 2K pace.
You rowed a 6K at a 2:00.0 average split
Your predicted 5K is approximately 19:30 (1:57.0 split), as the shorter distance allows a slightly faster sustainable pace.
A beginner with a 2:20.0 2K split
Predicted 5K split is approximately 2:25.0, giving a finish time of around 24:10. Beginners tend to see smaller gaps between distances.
